Getting Ready For Home School-Are You Ready?

Starting the homeschooling journey can be both exciting and overwhelming, especially for parents who are new to it. This blog will help you assess your readiness to embark on this educational adventure. If you are not, no worries. I have you covered. I want you to ask yourself these questions and then we can move forward.

  1. Do you have a clear understanding of your state’s homeschooling laws and requirements?
  2. Have you researched and selected a curriculum or educational approach that aligns with your child’s learning style?
  3. Do you understand the different teaching styles?
  4. Do you have a dedicated space in your home for homeschooling, free from distractions and well-organized for learning?
  5. Have you established a daily or weekly schedule for your homeschooling activities, including breaks and downtime?
  6. Are you prepared to adapt your teaching methods to meet your child’s individual learning style and pace?
  7. Do you have access to educational resources, such as books, online materials, and learning aids to support your child’s education?
  8. Have you joined local homeschooling groups or networks to connect with other homeschooling families for support and social opportunities?
  9. Are you ready to maintain records of your child’s progress, attendance, and educational activities, as required by your state?
  10. Have you discussed your decision to home school with your child and addressed any concerns or questions they may have?
  11. Are you committed to continually assessing and adjusting your homeschooling approach to meet your child’s evolving needs and interests?
  12. Are you ready to say sorry, for being frustrated?
  13. Are you ready to look at your mindset?
  14. Are you are that your child regulates their behavior to avoid making parents angry? So keeping a peaceful learning environment will help with child’s ability to process and learn

Scoring:
Count the number of “Yes” responses:

  • 0-4 Yes: You might need more preparation and research before starting homeschooling.
  • 5-8 Yes: You are on the right track but may need some fine-tuning and additional planning.
  • 9-13 Yes: Congratulations! You are well-prepared to start your homeschooling journey.

Remember that homeschooling is a flexible and adaptable educational path, and there are many resources and communities available to support you. Don’t be discouraged if you answered “No” to some questions; use this checklist as a starting point to help you plan and make informed decisions about your homeschooling adventure.
